The Cage of Depression

Description

A sculpture made during my final semester of uni, symbolising my experience with depression. I wanted to capture the cruel irony of the illness, in that the way out is always close at hand, yet you feel powerless to get there.

The figure was constructed from polymer clay on an aluminium wire armature. The cage was constructed from steel rods, cut to size, and held in place with copper brazing. This was a most enjoyable project to work on, as it provided an interesting departure from the computer-based work I am familiar with, allowing me to work in a much more hands-on, practical manner. I would definately love to work with this style of art in the future.

I hate it, not what art it is, but what it represents to me, what it means to me. life could be fine if I just get up and Take a active role In my own life make it something nice for myself.
All I do instead is wither away day by day waiting, hoping for meself to fade away from existence to have the mercy the hell in my head might fade with me, only to wake to a new day trapped in the horrors of my own making, to broken to turn around to see my salvation
